Kwame Opoku scores sixth goal in seventh game as Kotoko draw with Samartex
Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club striker Kwame Opoku’s return to the Ghana Premier League has proven successful so far as the forward keeps delivering the goods.
Opoku bagged his sixth goal in seven GPL games in Kotoko’s 1-1 draw with FC Samartex 1996 at the latter’s home ground at Samreboi.
Samartex’s Awuah Dramani scored the game’s first goal in the 38th minute before Kwame Opoku equalized in the 46th minute.
After scoring in Kotoko’s 2-0 win over Legon Cities on the GPL’s resumption following a multi-week break due to the death of Kotoko fan Francis “Pooley” Frimpong from stab wounds sustained during Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman, Opoku improved his tally on his return after playing in the Algerian and Moroccan top flights.
In a related development, Nsoatreman FC have since announced their withdrawal from competing in the remainder of the 2024-2025 GPL season due to safety concerns stemming from the Pooley incident.

In the lead up to the game, Kotoko had lost once in five league outings with Samartex’s sole win coming via a 1-0 result at home in its title winning 2023-2024 campaign.
In other results, Young Apostles beat Accra Lions 1-0 via Hussein Issah’s goal in the 76th minute.
