Kurt Okraku cleared to contest CAF Executive Committee seat
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku is set to join the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee following his successful clearance to contest for a seat.
Okraku, who is running unopposed for the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) position, shared his excitement on Facebook, stating, “Thrilled to share that I have been cleared to contest for a place on the Executive Committee of CAF, after successfully passing the integrity test. Excited for what lies ahead. May God guide us through this journey!”
His journey to the Executive Committee is part of CAF’s 14th Extraordinary General Assembly, scheduled for March 12, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt. The congress will see key decisions, including the election of CAF President, Executive Committee members, and African representatives on the FIFA Council for the 2025–2029 cycle.
Okraku’s unopposed candidacy underscores his strong reputation within African football circles, following his leadership at the GFA since 2019. He has been instrumental in revitalizing football in Ghana, championing youth development and advocating for transparency in football governance.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, also running unopposed for a second term, will oversee this crucial assembly. Other notable candidates vying for various seats include Tanzania’s Wallace John Karia, Liberia’s Mustapha Raji, and Algeria’s Sadi Walid.
Additionally, the congress will determine African representation on the FIFA Council, with figures like Sierra Leone’s Isha Johansen, Egypt’s Hany Abou Rida, and Senegal’s Augustine Senghor contesting for limited seats.
