Eight people have picked nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s primaries for the vacant Kumawu constituency seat.
This comes after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on April 3, 2023, declared the seat vacant following the death of Philip Atta Basoa.
The eight aspirants include Yaw Baah, former MP, and Appiah Kubi who is NPP’s first vice chairman of the Kumawu Constituency.
Lawyer Edward Osei, formerly of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority who lost in the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries in Kumawu, is back to contest again.
Dr Aboagye Dacosta of the Ghana Health Service has also picked his form; another medical practitioner Dr. Philip Bannor is also contesting.
Nana Ama Serwaa, who works at the Ministry of Education is the only woman who is reported to have picked a form at the moment.
Ernest Yaw Anim and Osei Bempah have also picked their forms.
The party has opened nominations for interested party members to pick their forms.
Nominations will close on Friday, April 14, 2023, while Sunday, April 23 has been set to elect a parliamentary candidate for the by-election.
The timelines for the by-election for the Kumawu constituency were determined after the party’s national executive committee and national council meetings.
