Kufuor commiserates with Mahama after helicopter crash
Former President John Kufuor has officially visited President John Mahama to express his condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that resulted in the loss of two Ministers and six others.
In a heartfelt statement, Mr. Kufuor conveyed his sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of those who died while serving the nation.
He stressed the importance of honouring their memory through acts of compassion, unity, and a strengthened dedication to national service.
The victims included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, alongside NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.
Also among those lost were three crew members of the Ghana Armed Forces: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
This tragic incident occured on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, as they travelled to Obuasi for a national assignment.
The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and are currently undergoing forensic examination and identification in South Africa as tributes continue to pour in their honour.
In response to the tragedy, the government has declared a three-day national mourning period, starting on Thursday, August 7, 2025, with various commemorative activities planned.
Meanwhile, a state burial is set for Friday, August 15, 2025, and books of condolence will be made available to honour their memory.
