Kpandai: Repeated reruns threaten public confidence — Election Watch Ghana
Election Watch Ghana has expressed concern over the repeated reruns of elections in some constituencies, particularly in Kpandai.
In a statement issued on Thursday, December 11, the organisation said these reruns put a strain on taxpayers’ money and weaken public confidence in the electoral process.
The group stressed that the impartiality of electoral officers is essential for free, fair, and credible elections. They noted that the rising number of reruns highlights gaps in election management and administration, signaling an urgent need for reforms.
Election Watch Ghana urged all political actors in Kpandai, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to actively participate in the upcoming by-elections. The organisation said inclusive engagement is key to a strong and participatory democracy.
The group also called on the Electoral Commission of Ghana to improve its operations, ensure strict adherence to electoral guidelines, and enhance transparency and accountability in election management.
Election Watch Ghana emphasised that addressing operational inefficiencies will help prevent costly and unnecessary reruns in the future.
The organisation concluded by encouraging all citizens and stakeholders to support reforms that strengthen the integrity of elections and build public trust in Ghana’s democracy.
