Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu confirms talks to sign new players

The head coach of Asante Kotoko, Maxwell Konadu, has disclosed that the club is in talks to sign eight highly-rated players to beef up its squad ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The Porcupine Warriors are also looking to offload some players in a bid to trim the squad to 28 players.

“We have thirty-eight players in our fold. Some of them have returned from injuries whiles others have also rejoined us after their loan spells,” Konadu told Angel FM.

“We will be releasing most of them because we have decided to work with only 28 players for next season.”

“It’s true that we are holding talks with top eight players to strengthen the team,” he concluded.

The Porcupine Warriors are in talks with Matthew Anim Cudjoe; Ashgold’s duo Shafiu Mumuni and Anabila; Emmanuel Keyekeh of Karela, and ex-Hearts forward Joseph Esso.

Already negotiations are ongoing for Medeama’s Justice Blay, who spent the first half of the scrapped GPL season with Kotoko.

Reports also have it that the Premier league giant is also interested in signing the general captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan.

Kotoko is allowed to sign players after a ban imposed on the club by the owner of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu  II was lifted.

This was after the club’s new CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah, managed to convince him on the need to acquire some players to beef up the team, ahead of their CAF Champions League campaign.
