Kotoko aim to bounce back against struggling Legon Cities in key clash
Asante Kotoko are set to face Legon Cities in an Ghana Premier League outstanding match, hoping to return to winning ways after their impressive run was halted over the weekend against Basake Holy Stars.
Kotoko had secured three straight wins and, after taking a first-half lead, they were expected to make it four. However, a late equaliser from Holy Stars saw the game end in a 1-1 draw, leaving Kotoko still in second position.
Now three points behind Bibiani Goldstars, Kotoko are determined to secure a win against Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Stadium to close the gap at the top of the table.
Legon Cities, on the other hand, are struggling, approaching this clash with defeats to Berekum Chelsea, Nsoatreman, and Karela, failing to register a single victory in their eight games this season.
Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has urged fans to be patient after a disappointing 0-0 draw against Dreams FC, but it’s clear he and the players will need to put in extra effort defensively, having conceded goals in eight consecutive matches.
In their head-to-head matchups since December 2021, Kotoko has the upper hand. They have won three of the six encounters, with Legon Cities claiming victory just once and two matches ending in draws.
The last meeting took place on May 5, 2024, where Asante Kotoko secured a 2-0 victory. Overall, Kotoko have scored 10 goals to Legon Cities’ seven in these matches, giving them a better record in recent history.
