The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has temporarily suspended elective surgeries and relocated emergency cases due to ongoing issues with the lifts at the surgical block.
According to a statement from Professor J. E. Mensah of the Surgical Department, the malfunctioning lifts have hindered the movement of patients within the surgical tower, affecting the hospital’s ability to conduct surgeries effectively.
In response to the situation, KBTH has decided to focus exclusively on emergency cases until further notice.
Emergency surgeries will now take place at the Ground Floor Surgical (Neuro), Accident Centre, Pediatric, and Gynaecology theatres.
Patients undergoing these procedures will be admitted to Wards G, N, A, and B.
The hospital is currently in the process of replacing one lift and refurbishing another, with the procurement process underway.
KBTH assured that efforts are being made to complete the work promptly to minimise disruption and resume normal operations.
Below is the statement to that effect.
