There was confusion at the memorial service of the late President Prof John Evans Atta Mills at the Asomdwee Park in Accra when his former aide, Koku Anyidoho, clashed with his relatives and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the venue was to host two wreath-laying ceremonies to commemorate the 12-year passing of the late president.

However, Koku Anyodoho reportedly overran the ceremony which delayed that of the family and members of the NDC.

According to Samuel Atta Mills, the brother of the late president, Mr. Anyidoho brought “fake family members” and instructed them to stay put, which prevented the NDC from starting its programme on time.

The family of former President Atta Mills, led by his brother, Samuel Atta Mills, who also serves as the MP for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem constituency and members of the NDC reportedly forced their way into the venue leading to the commotion.

“You’re not related to this man and anybody could come here and celebrate him. He [Atta Mills] is for the country so why would you want to clash with us? And as a coward, as he is, he ran away and left the people here – the fake family over here.

“We didn’t intimidate anybody but when persuasion fails, force is applied. Indeed, we are at Asomdwee Park but when we talk to you and you don’t understand, sometimes a little bit of encouragement will make you move,” Mr Samuel Atta Mills explained.

The MP also accused Mr Anyidoho of acting with the backing of some powerful political powers and cautioned him to be wary since he (Anyidoho) is not a family member of the late president.

Meanwhile, the sister of Prof Mills, Mercy Araba Ahema Quarshie, expressed disgust over the incident.

“I want to make it clear to everyone that Koku Anyidoho has stepped on the wrong foot by tampering with our brother’s grave without our knowledge.

“That is unacceptable and now we are going to deal with him because it is a taboo in our family to do that,” she said.
