Koforidua: FDA arrests 9 persons in possession of unregistered products
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has arrested nine persons in some parts of the Eastern Regional capital for selling unregistered products.
FDA in collaboration with the Koforidua Central Police Command organized a swoop within some areas in Koforidua on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
The areas visited were information centres, lorry Stations, and Herbal retail shops within Nkurakan, Asokore, and Effiduase.
According to the Eastern Regional FDA, Public Relations Officer, Mr. George Ampofo Ayeh, the people were caught selling unauthorized herbal medicines and cosmetic products in the form of capsules, mixtures, and balms.
He said the FDA is on a mission to rid the Ghanaian market of unregistered drugs, hence the swoop.
Meanwhile, the arrested persons who are owners of information centres, retailers, and product manufacturers are assisting police investigations and will be arraigned before a court at a later date.
This comes after days after six persons were arrested for peddling unregistered drugs in Kumasi.
The team seized large quantities of unregistered drugs during the inspection.
The Public Health Act of 2012 formed the basis of the exercise.
John Laryea Odai-Tettey, the Ashanti Regional head of the FDA, warned that the authority will soon take legal action against advertisers who use their platforms to market unregistered products.
