Kofi Okyere Darko Appointed Adviser on Diaspora Affairs

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed media personality and creative entrepreneur Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) as the Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs.

The appointment was confirmed by KOD on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

KOD’s new role highlights President Mahama’s dedication to strengthening connections with Ghanaians abroad, promoting investment opportunities, and enhancing both cultural and economic ties between Ghana and its diaspora.

With his extensive experience in bridging the gap between Ghana and its global community, KOD is well-positioned to lead this initiative.

Kofi Okyere Darko, the CEO of the clothing line Nineteen 57, is also the founder of Rhythms on Da Runway, an annual fashion and music event that showcases Ghanaian creativity. Born as Richard Aidoo on January 13, 1978, in Winneba, KOD grew up in a family with deep roots in Ghanaian public service.

His mother, Margaret Aidoo, was a founding member of the 31st December Women’s Movement.

KOD’s academic journey includes attending Nifa Secondary School in Adukrom and the Ghana Institute of Journalism, followed by a Master of Arts in Public Relations from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC).

He began his career as a production assistant at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and later worked at Radio Gold before moving to England, where he worked with renowned fashion brands like Ted Baker and Paul Smith.

After returning to Ghana, KOD held roles as a presenter, events manager, and marketing manager at EIB Network’s LIVE FM and has gained a reputation as a popular MC.

This appointment reflects KOD’s continued commitment to supporting the creative and cultural sectors in Ghana while strengthening global ties with the Ghanaian diaspora.
