The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has ordered the President of the Students Representative Council (SRC), Michael Adofo Abuah, to step aside over allegations of misconduct.

Mr. Adofo Abuah was expected to organise an educational trip to South Africa as requested by the South African Union of Students in collaboration with the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG).

He, however, failed to organise the trip, which attracted a cost of GH¢9,100.00.

He was asked to refund the amount by July 22.

A letter signed by KNUST Deputy Registrar of Students Affairs, Lucy Diawuo, addressed to Mr. Abuah, said he will be on suspension until a Junior Member Disciplinary Committee completes the investigation into the controversy.

The SRC Judicial Committee has been asked to ensure that there is no break in the administration of the student body until the matter is resolved.

“By copy of this letter, the SRC Judicial Committee is to ensure in accordance with the SRC constitution that no hiatus is created in the administration of the student body. The Judicial committee should liaise with the director of students affairs for the necessary actions to be taken for the effective running of the SRC administration,” the statement added.

A petition by the Coalition of Concerned Students (CCS) triggered investigations into the trip.
