KNUST SHS Scandal: Gender Ministry backs arrest of Asst. Head

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has joined forces with the Ghana Police Service to arrest Charles Akwasi Aidoo, the dismissed Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, following disturbing allegations of misconduct.

Mr Aidoo was removed from his post by the Ghana Education Service (GES) on September 29, 2025, after a viral video allegedly showed him fondling a female student.

GES described the incident as a serious violation of its code of ethics and barred him from entering the school premises. Further disciplinary action is expected pending the outcome of investigations.

During a working visit by Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to the Gender Ministry, Minister Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey addressed the issue publicly.

“The recent one is the report of the female student at KNUST SHS with the assistant headmaster. Even though GES through the school dismissed him, we are collaborating with the police to effect the arrest of the perpetrator,” she said.

Dr Lartey reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to protecting children and vulnerable groups, stating that anyone found guilty of abuse must be held accountable.

The case has sparked outrage among parents and educators, many of whom are calling for swift justice and stronger safeguards in schools.

Mr Aidoo’s arrest is expected to follow soon as investigations continue. The Ministry has assured the public that it will not relent in its efforts to ensure justice is served.
