KNUST mourns student’s tragic death; investigation underway

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is in grief over the loss of one of its students following a tragic incident on campus.

In the early hours of February 27, 2025, at approximately 5:00 a.m., KNUST Security Services received a report of a lifeless female body near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre.

The body was immediately transported to the University Health Services, where medical personnel confirmed her death.

The deceased has been identified as Joana Deladem Yabani, a fourth-year Biological Sciences student.

The university has since notified her family and extended its deepest condolences during this difficult time.

A full-scale investigation is currently underway involving the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and University Health Services.

Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, the university management has assured students, staff, and the general public of its commitment to maintaining campus safety.

In a statement, KNUST urged the community to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family.
