The Ghana Police Service has revealed that Lois Koranteng, a 24-year-old Petroleum Engineering graduate of KNUST, died of asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema and drowning in a pool.
This comes after the news of her death went viral on social media, with the family alleging that she was murdered and dumped into the pool.
Many also questioned the police for not being forthcoming with information.
Earlier reports suggested that Lois Koranteng checked into the CrisLord Palace Hotel on June 7, 2024, with her boss and the company’s driver but was found dead in the hotel’s pool the following morning.
The reports also indicated that the hotel’s CCTV cameras were not functioning during the week of the incident.
In response, the police said in a statement dated July 11, 2024, that Lois was found unconscious in a swimming pool at a hotel in Takoradi.
She was, however, declared dead at a hospital in the same city.
The police said their officers visited the scene and also visited the hospital to inspect the body but found no marks of assault on her.
The statement added that in the presence of the family, a pathologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital conducted an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the police said that following the family’s dissatisfaction with the lack of communication, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) reached out to them and rendered an unqualified apology.
“He assured them that investigation into the incident is still ongoing and also informed them of the readiness of the police to visit them at their convenience and update them on the investigation done so far,” a part of the statement read.
