The petition, submitted by Martin Amidu, calls for President Akufo-Addo to remove Mr. Agyebeng from his position.
Dated April 30, 2024, the petition alleges procurement breaches in the purchase of vehicles for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and accuses Mr. Agyebeng of misconduct involving judges and the administration of justice.
Mr. Amidu’s petition includes allegations of violations of citizens’ rights through arrests and detentions, breaches of the right to information, and improper appointment of personnel to the OSP.
But Mr. Kpebu has mounted a spirited defence for the Special Prosecutor.
According to him, although the Special Prosecutor has flaws, he is doing a good job.
“We have not gotten there yet, therefore it was unnecessary for the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to take that tandem. It’s good to criticize him but to have him impeached is wrong.”
“It’s not fair; generally, he has done well as Special Prosecutor. Kissi is independent-minded and very outspoken. He is the personification of integrity so why must he be impeached if he is doing the right thing,” he quizzed.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has forwarded the petition seeking the removal of the Special Prosecutor to the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
