Kenyan newspaper apologises for false death advert
Kenya’s biggest media group has apologised for a “false death announcement” of a woman published on its flagship newspaper, the Daily Nation.
Rosemary Wekosasa presented herself to the company’s office following the publication of the notice on Monday, the company said in a statement retracting the announcement.
It said it had relied on false information given by the woman’s son.
The fake obituary with a colour photo of the woman had indicated that she had died on 8 November after having cancer.
“We regret the pain the pain and anguish this may have caused to Ms. Rosemary and her family and sincerely apologise for this,” it said.
It added that it had taken immediate action against the person responsible for placing the ad, and reported the matter to the police for their action.
