Kennedy Agyapong’s showdown comment not a threat – Campaign Team clarifies

The campaign team of Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has clarified that the aspirant’s showdown comment was not a threat.

It will be recalled that Mr Agyapong, was heard in a viral video threatening to give President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia a showdown for allegedly chasing his agents away during the just-ended NPP super delegates congress on Saturday.

Following the alleged threats, the NPP, in a statement condemning the pockets of violence that occurred at some centres summoned Mr Agyapong.

Addressing the issue, the team categorically stated that the comment was not intended as a threat.

The NPP stalwart’s campaign manager, Kwame Owusu, explained that the term “showdown” was employed to convey Agyapong’s fervent determination to triumph in the polls scheduled for November 4.

“Whether or not the confrontation was directed towards the Vice President or not, are you concerned about the meaning of confrontation? Because I think the showdown is basically a decisive point of either a confrontation or a contest.

“In that regard, if it is addressed to the Vice president it only then meant that come November no matter what happens he is going to be a victor. And so that is a showdown, a decisive confrontation, and a contest.

“It is not a threat, it is nothing for us to be worried about, It is just a simple language probably expressed in a different form,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Mr Owusu assured that Mr Agyapong is fully prepared to cooperate with the party’s disciplinary process.
