Keep track of your contributions – SSNIT urges workers

Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has urged contributors to keep track of their contributions towards their retirement.

Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang stressed the role contributors play in ensuring an enhanced retirement benefit.

“Through discussions on pensions have been rife in recent times in the media landscape, often, these discussions are silent on the role stakeholders are expected to play”

“But as we are all very well aware of, and if you’re not I’m reminding you today, that what you will receive as pension largely depends on the actions you take today” he noted.

Speaking at the launch of SSNIT mobile service in Takoradi Monday morning, Ofori-Tenkorang stressed that the spotlight should not only be on SSNIT for the pension’s retirees receive but also on workers and the amounts they contribute.

According to him, contrary to the perceptions that SSNIT does what it pleases, the Trust is regulated by the National Pension Regulatory Authority.

“Contrary to what people believe, SSNIT does not do what it pleases but our operations are checked by the regulator to ensure we are discharging our duties as prescribed by law,” he said.

This year’s mobile service is themed “Securing your retirement – your role as a Stakeholder”.

The SSNIT Mobile Service is an annual event where SSNIT officers move from their regular office setting to pitch camp at vantage locations across the country to bring its services closer to their Members and Clients.

The Mobile Service Week affords stakeholders who may be too busy to visit the branches or remember to use the Trust’s online platforms the opportunity to transact business with the Trust at their convenience.
