Kasoa violence: I was never arrested – NDC Parliamentary Candidate
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor has denied claims of her arrest in connection with the recent violence that occured during a vote transfer exercise in Kasoa in the Central Region.
In an interview, Naa Koryoo explained that she was only invited by the police because her driver and security guard were arrested.
According to her, the duo were arrested because a licensed gun was found in her car.
“I have never been arrested. Yes, I was invited to the police station. I was not arrested. I was there because I had to go there.
“My driver was arrested, and my security guard was arrested because a licensed gun was found in my car…It was far away from the registration centre,” she noted in an interview on Citi FM.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Police Service, in a statement on Sunday, June 2 2024, claimed that three persons were arrested at Ofaakor, near Kasoa in the Central Region, for possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
The suspects, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, Mustapha Mohammed, and Abdul Aziz Musah, were arrested around the Electoral Commission (EC) Office at Ofaakor in a Honda CRV saloon car with registration number GX-2044-19.
One pump-action gun with four rounds of ammunition was retrieved from the vehicle.
The police are still investigating the matter.
The EC has begun processes for transferring votes, applying for proxy voting, and replacing lost or damaged voter ID cards.
The exercise started on Thursday, May 30, 2024, and will end on June 14.
The EC is organising the exercise to prepare Ghana’s voter roll for the upcoming December general elections.
