Traders at the Kasoa Old Market have staged a protest against the decision by the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly to demolish some temporary structures to make way for new livable stores.

The leadership of the Kasoa Petty Traders Association, which represents nearly 1,000 traders, said the move could severely affect hundreds of traders who may not be able to afford the rent for the new stores.

Speaking at a press conference on March 4, the association’s secretary, Appiah Roger, described the assembly’s plan as conflicting with the government’s 24-Hour Economy Policy.

The traders are calling for the decision to be halted immediately and for extensive dialogue to be held before any action is taken.

“We are protesting because the majority of the people over here who are selling and trading in Kasoa do not have that amount of money to pay for the rent of the store” he said
