Kasoa tollbooth accident: Four confirmed dead
The Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command has confirmed that four people lost their lives in a tragic accident that took place near the Kasoa tollbooth on Sunday, October 26, 2024.
The victims include the driver of the Sprinter minibus, a male passenger, a Level 200 midwifery student from KAAF University, and a child.
Several passengers who suffered minor injuries have received treatment and been discharged, while those with more serious injuries are still hospitalised at the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa and the Police Hospital in Accra.
In the meantime, police have identified and reached out to the driver of a Jeep 4×4 vehicle with the registration number GR 7673 W, who is currently cooperating with the investigation.
According to numerous eyewitness accounts, the Jeep driver was reversing on the highway when the Sprinter minibus, registered GW 7455-18, collided with its rear.
The collision caused the minibus to flip multiple times before coming to rest on the median of the road.
Local residents have characterised the Broadcasting-Tollbooth–Kasoa segment of the N1 Highway as a notorious area for frequent road accidents.
Chief Inspector Joseph Mensah of the MTTD at the Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command, who participated in the rescue efforts, attributed the accident to excessive speeding.
“Excessive speeding by drivers remains one major cause of accidents on this road. Though we continue to advise motorists to drive with care, a lot of them pay little attention to the cautions. We’re therefore urging them to prioritise their safety and that of passengers,” he said in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.
