Another rock blasting activity by the construction company undertaking the Kasoa-Winneba road expansion project has caused destruction at Dabenyin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Pieces of rock that flew from the explosion landed on several residential buildings in the area, causing extensive damage.
There were, however, no casualties, unlike a previous incident that claimed lives in Buduburam.
Meanwhile, the affected house owners have lamented the lack of concern shown by the authorities.
“We have leaks in the roofs of all six rooms, and the house on the other side with five rooms has damaged roofing sheets. I complained to Dominase Police Station. When we got there, they told me to inform NADMO due to the intensity of the matter.
“I called the person who was supposed to come and inspect, but he never came. I took a GHS25,000 loan to roof the building. I don’t want them to come, remove some, and replace them. They should bring someone to change the entire roof so we all have peace,” one of the victims said.
Meanwhile, the Gomoa East Metropolitan Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says it has concluded its disaster assessment.
The NADMO director said that the affected house owners will soon be compensated.
Several others were left in critical condition following the tragedy.
According to eyewitnesses, the construction company stopped all the vehicles plying the stretch to make way for the blast.
However, the process went wrong when flying rocks hit people in their cars, homes, and the market.
