Kantamanto Fire Outbreak: Police Provide Operational Support

The Ghana Police Service has assured affected traders at Kantamanto of their preparedness to provide operational support to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and other national disaster management bodies to ensure that there is orderliness and security in the area.

This was after fire ravaged properties worth thousands of cedis on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

A statement released by the Ghana Police Service immediately after the incident said, “The police are providing operational support to the Ghana National Fire Service as they work to put out a fire that has engulfed a section of the Kantamanto market in Accra”.

Although some affected traders were traumatized, some wicked individuals were caught looting from various shops amid the havoc for their selfish interests.

According to the police, “officers have also been deployed to prevent possible looting and direct the movement of persons and vehicles away from the incident scene.”

Traders who were severely affected shared their emotions with the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery; the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare; and the Chief Fire Officer, who were all present to assess the extent of damage at the market.
