Police in Kade in the Eastern Region have launched investigations into the deaths of a young couple, identified as 22-year-old Atta Panyin and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Deborah, following what is believed to have been a domestic dispute.
The two, natives of Akyem Takworase, were living together in Kade at the time of the incident.
According to information gathered from the community, Deborah had been living in the village before Atta Panyin brought her to Kade and supported her to learn a trade.
Friends say the couple dated for some time, but tensions later emerged, leading Deborah to relocate to Kasoa in the Central Region.
She reportedly returned to Kade days later to formally end the relationship, informing Atta Panyin that she had found a new partner and had come to collect her personal belongings.
The discussion is said to have escalated into a heated confrontation after Atta Panyin reacted angrily to the decision.
Witnesses say he locked the room and refused to allow Deborah to leave with her items.
Concern grew when Deborah could not be reached, prompting friends to alert neighbours.
On February 2, 2025, residents forced their way into the room, where they made a grim discovery.
Deborah was found with fatal knife wounds, with blood stains visible in the room.
Atta Panyin was also found dead, hanging from a rope tied to a ceiling fan, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.
The bodies have since been conveyed to the Kade Government Hospital for preservation, as police continue investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
