The New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives in the Adansi Asokwa constituency have filed a petition seeking the disqualification of Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, an aspirant in the parliamentary primary.
The petition signed by 14 NPP executives along with the Adansi Asokwa MP, K. T. Hammond, accused Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, Deputy Managing Director at the Ghana Publishing Company, of not belonging to the NPP and contributing less to the constituency’s development.
Mr Darkwa is also accused of taking away pick-ups donated to the constituency after losing the 2018 parliamentary primaries to the incumbent MP, K.T. Hammond.
However, Mr Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, who is seeking to unseat the incumbent, said he is not worried about the development.
“I am looking forward to unseating the incumbent MP who was fortunate during the last primaries. I am not worried or perturbed about the situation. We are looking forward to victory,” he said.
The contest in the Adansi Asokwa constituency is expected to be fierce as three other aspirants position themselves to unseat K.T. Hammond.
K.T. Hammond has served five terms in parliament and is seeking a sixth.
Other NPP MPs who have served at least five terms, such as Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Joseph Osei-Owusu are not expected to contest again.
If K.T. Hammond loses the parliamentary elections, the NPP will not have any experienced legislator who has served at least five terms to contest for seats in the next parliament.
