Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has waded into the controversies surrounding the exoneration of the former Vice Chancellor  of the University of Education , Winneba, Prof. Mawutor Avoke stressing that this is a clear case of injustice.

The call for justice comes after the former Vice Chancellor of the school had petitioned the former President over his removal by the council of the school.

Professor Avoke was dismissed by the University following accusations of financial mismanagement.

Investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) exonerated Prof Avoke from the said allegations.

The University has however refused to reinstate him as the President sworn in another Vice Chancellor.

In light of above happenings, former President in a letter addressed to the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah argues the non-resolution of the matter involving Prof. Avoke and some five others is unjust.

He noted “Unfortunately, during the pendency of the investigations, the affected persons were dismissed from the University by the previous Council of the University. The action has created a complex situation, leaving the exonerated Prof. Avoke and his colleagues still out of work. Honourable Minister there is a clear case of injustice and the continued non-resolution of this matter is justice denied and untenable.”

“As per the Professor’s request, I will be grateful if you can look into the merits of the latest developments and take the necessary steps in consultation with the relevant stakeholders that will be satisfactory, justifiable and equitable in the eye of the law. I count on your kind assistance and cooperation,” he further stressed.

Former President is therefore calling on the government to ensure that Justice is served in the matter.
