The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has reiterated that their ongoing strike will persist until the government meets their demands.
JUSAG’s General Secretary, Abdullai Yakubu, affirmed that while negotiations would continue, the strike action would remain in force until their concerns are adequately addressed.
Mr Yakubu explained that the association intends not to frustrate the government but to ensure their demands are recognized and fulfilled.
“Our strike is still in force today. We will be meeting with our management and other meetings that will be geared toward meeting our demands. However, until those meetings take place, and we know what the meetings are bringing on board in terms of meeting our demands, the strike remains in force,” he indicated.
JUSAG initiated the indefinite strike following the expiration of government ultimatums to address their demands for salary increases and the payment of arrears due from January 2023.
The association had previously written to President Akufo-Addo, requesting the approval of the Judicial Council’s recommendation for a review of salaries and related allowances in accordance with Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Among their grievances, JUSAG also expressed dissatisfaction with the withdrawal of the Cost of Living Allowance in December 2022, particularly considering the country’s economic challenges.
The association maintained that its members had exercised considerable patience and that their concerns needed to be promptly addressed.
