The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has declared an indefinite strike due to the government’s failure to approve reviewed salaries and other allowances for its members.
In a statement, JUSAG accused the government of consistently neglecting the conditions of service and other emoluments owed to its members for over 12 months.
The association expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of urgency in addressing their proposals for the implementation of the approved cost of living allowance (COLA) for public sector workers, including judicial service staff.
Citing mistreatment and the inability to bear the circumstances any longer, JUSAG has made the difficult decision to initiate the strike action starting from May 24.
“We have suffered enough. We can no longer bear it. An empty sack can no longer stand upright,” the statement said.
The association emphasized that it has reached this point after extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including the Judicial Service Ladies Association of Ghana, Senior Staff Association (SSAJUG), Driver Association, Finance Staff Association, and others.
It will be recalled that JUSAG submitted its proposal for the review of salaries for 2023-2024 to the Judicial Council on October 31, 2022, for consideration and subsequent determination by President Nana Akufo-Addo. But the government is yet to meet their demands.
