The Interior Ministry has declared 11 July 2022, as a public holiday.

A statement signed by the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery, said the day “has been declared a Public Holiday to mark “Eid-ul-Adha.”

The statement further called on Ghanaians to observe the day as a statutory public holiday throughout the country.

Eid-ul-Adha often referred to as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two important religious holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide.

It’s a day set aside to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ismail.

The festival is usually opened with special prayers before the slaughtering of goats, sheep or cows, among others.

The date for Eid-ul-Adha may vary between countries, as it is based on lunar sightings.
