The Ghana Police Service has asked the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstrators who were allegedly brutalised by the police to provide evidence for investigation.

This comes after a meeting between the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Dampare, and the leaders of the Democracy Hub group on Friday, September 22, 2023.

Protesters alleged that they were manhandled by the police on Thursday, September 21, during a demonstration around the 37 Military Hospital and the Jubilee House.

The protesters are asking President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government to fix Ghana’s economic problems.

The demonstrators hit the streets despite a caution by the police, leading to the arrest of 49 of them over unlawful assembly and violation of the Public Order Act.

In a statement, the police assured that they were not against any group that wanted to demonstrate, but the concern was the location for the demonstration.

The leaders of the Democracy Hub group also assured the police that they would discuss a possible compromise in the venue and revert to the service.

“It was established at the meeting that there is no evidence or reported case of assault against the demonstrators, according to police records. Therefore, anyone with evidence to the contrary should provide it for investigation,” the statement said.
