Juan Mata links up with former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien at Nordsjaelland
Spanish international Juan Mata has reunited with his former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien at FC Nordsjaelland, where Essien serves as an assistant coach.
During their time together at Chelsea, Mata and Essien won several titles, including the UEFA Champions League in 2012 under manager Roberto di Matteo.
Recently, there were rumors that the 36-year-old Mata was close to making a comeback to the field after being spotted at Nordjaelland.
However, the club has denied these reports, stating that Mata is simply training with the team.
According to a statement from the club, Mata requested to train with them while he is in Sweden, and they are happy to accommodate this request due to his connection to the club as a co-founder of the charitable organization Common Goal.
The club also highlighted the benefits of having Mata train with their young squad, allowing them to absorb his experience and expertise.
There is also no doubt that our young squad will be able to absorb a lot of input and experience during the period he trains with us, so in this way, we can help each other, says Phil Radley, Director of Football at FC Nordsjælland, a statement from the club reads.
