Juaboso police foil robbery, arrest suspect at mining site

The Juaboso District Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber during a swift response to a robbery at a mining site near Sefwi Kofi Krom in the Western North Region.

The operation was led by Inspector Ernest Adjetey and his Formed Police Unit (FPU) patrol team.

Acting on a distress call, the officers rushed to the scene and discovered five young men hiding in a nearby plantain farm.

The suspects attempted to escape, but with the help of the complainant, police apprehended one of them, 19-year-old Maxwell Awuni.

Awuni later led police to his residence in Sefwi Proso, where a stash of weapons and robbery tools hidden in a sack was retrieved. The items included:

  • 1 pump-action gun (Adler/Alpha)

  • 3 single-barrel guns

  • 1 locally made pistol

  • 22 live BB cartridges

  • 2 live 9mm cartridges

  • 2 face masks

  • 1 cutlass

  • 1 hand glove

  • 1 mini black pouch

During interrogation, Awuni admitted that he and his accomplices had attacked the mining site earlier that morning and stolen gold concentrate, locally called “black.” He also revealed plans for another robbery.

Awuni is in custody, assisting police with investigations, while a manhunt is underway to capture the remaining suspects.
