Joseph Boahen Aidoo has officially resigned from his post as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), effective immediately.
His resignation follows a recent government directive to dissolve the boards of all State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), including COCOBOD.
In his resignation letter addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Aidoo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead COCOBOD over the past eight years.
He thanked former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, and Ghanaians for trusting him with the leadership of the board.
Mr. Aidoo called his time at COCOBOD an “incredible honour”, acknowledging the vital role COCOBOD plays in Ghana’s economy and cocoa industry.
Although his tenure under the COCOBOD Law, 1984 (PNDCL 81), was set to end in July 2025, Mr. Aidoo chose to step down early.
He stated that the decision was made to ensure a smooth leadership transition, giving ample time for stakeholders and business partners to build relationships with his successor.
Mr. Aidoo reaffirmed his commitment to the continued development of Ghana’s cocoa sector, offering his support in any transitional processes.
Under his leadership, COCOBOD worked to improve cocoa production, enhance farmer welfare, and promote Ghanaian cocoa on the international market.
His resignation, while expected due to the government’s directive, marks the end of a significant chapter for COCOBOD.
The transition to new leadership will be closely monitored by both the government and stakeholders in the cocoa industry, with hopes that the momentum in Ghana’s cocoa sector will continue to grow.
