Jordan Ayew names Christian Atsu as the best player he has ever played with
Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has revealed that the late Christian Atsu was the best player he ever played alongside in his career.
Atsu tragically lost his life in 2023, after being found under rubble following an earthquake in Turkey, where he was playing professional football.
In an interview with Joysports’ Daniel Koranteng, Ayew was asked to name the best player he had played with at national team level, and he did not hesitate to name Atsu.
“The best player I’ve ever played with, unfortunately, is no longer with us, and that’s Christian [Atsu]. I played with Muntari and Essien,” he said with a sad grin.
“Asamoah [Gyan] and Andre [Ayew] are also up there, but I’ll go with Atsu. He didn’t get enough plaudits for how good he was on the field.”
Jordan Ayew led the Black Stars to two consecutive wins in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying matches, securing a 5-0 victory against Chad and a 3-0 win over Madagascar.
The captain played a crucial role in Ghana’s success, contributing to five goals, scoring once and providing four assists.
Ghana currently sits atop Group I with 15 points, holding a three-point lead over second-placed Comoros with Madagascar, Mali, the Central African Republic, and Chad trailing behind.
