Former President John Dramani Mahama has again been selected to lead the National Democratic Congress(NDC) as flagbearer after a landslide victory in the party’s primaries on May 13.

The results were announced at the party’s head office in Accra in the early hours of Sunday, May 14, by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Former President Mahama contested against former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu after Dr Kwabena Duffour pulled out a few hours before the polls.

Former President Mahama swept 297,603 (98.9%) of the total valid votes emerging as the flagbearer-elect of the NDC.

His contender Kojo Bonsu managed to poll 3,181 representing 1.1% of votes.

Meanwhile, Kojo Bonsu had conceded defeat before the party’s official declaration.

In a Facebook post, the former Mayor of Kumasi said he had called former President John Mahama to congratulate him on his landslide victory in the presidential primaries.

“I have placed a call to H.E. John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him for the landslide victory. Just as I’ve indicated throughout my campaign, regardless of the outcome of this election, I’ll continue to serve the NDC party,” he said.

In a related development, the spokesperson of former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has said the camp of Mr Mahama has exceeded its target in the presidential primaries.

“Waiting for the final result, but we have exceeded our expectations! So far, 98% for HE John Dramani Mahama!

“The masses have spoken out and loudly! Thank you to the delegates! Our supporters and our volunteers,” she said in a tweet.
