Jane Naana’s “proven record” an “asset” for Ghana – NDC China
The China branch of the opposition NDC has extolled the leadership qualities of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, which gives the party an advantage heading into the 2020 polls.
The Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, named Professor Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate, making her the first woman to be nominated for the position in the history of the NDC.
She became the eight Ghanaian woman since 1992 to be named a running mate.
“Your sterling qualities, exemplary leadership, outstanding academic performance and experience make you an obvious asset for any organisation and country looking for only the best to serve its people.
“Your proven record in leadership both in and out of academia makes you peerless,” the Communications Officer for the NDC China Chapter, Felix Kwame Nyarko, said in a statement.
The immediate past Minister for Education and the first female Vice-Chancellor of a public university in Ghana has drawn praise from the rank and file of the party, including its founder, former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The NDC China Chapter, the latest group to endorse the nomination, said the move shows the trust and confidence the party has in Professor Opoku-Agyemang.
“We are fully persuaded, especially at a time when our dear nation is being run down by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia NPP government, that your experience, honesty, knowledge, wisdom, motherliness, commitment, humility, and leadership qualities will certainly bring the emancipation that Ghanaians have been yearning for come December 7, 2020,” the party added.
The group was of the view that the choice of a woman to the office of a running mate is a huge endorsement of women as key contributors to national development.
“It is not debatable that you are well-chosen, and cut out for such a high leadership position in the NDC and Ghana at large,” the release added.
