It is a crime to deny your partner sex – Police warn

The Deputy Commander for the Oti Region, ACP Dennis Fiakpui, has cautioned couples against denying partners sex.

According to ACP Fiakpui, sex denial may result in emotional abuse charges under Ghana’s Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007.

In an interview, ACP Fiakpui disclosed that women who deny their husbands sex could face charges of emotional abuse and, if convicted, could be sentenced to a maximum of two years in prison.

He further noted that this law is also relevant to men who deny their wives sex, urging emotionally abused women to file complaints with the police.

“If your husband refuses to eat your food and makes you unhappy and causes you emotional pain, you can also report it to the police, and if your husband comes home late and causes you to be unhappy, you can make a case at DOVSSU,” he stated.

ACP Fiakpui further stressed that women who refuse to engage in sexual relations with their husbands should also be reported.
