The Founder of Shea Butter Museum, Hamamat Montia, has described the recent visit by American streamer IShowSpeed as a symbolic moment that spotlighted the power and global appeal of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
Speaking at a meeting with the Tourism Minister to honour her as Ghana’s Cultural Ambassador for Shea Butter, Hamamat said the widely shared visit was more than a viral social media moment; it represented a celebration of African tradition, identity and enterprise on the world stage.
“The day our young brother IShowSpeed visited the shea butter museum, that moment was not just viral, it was symbolic. It showed the world the power, beauty and dignity of African tradition. What they saw was not just entertainment, it was our heritage,” she said.
IShowSpeed’s tour of the museum, which gained massive traction online, introduced millions of viewers worldwide to Ghana’s shea butter production process and the cultural significance behind it.
Hamamat Montia noted that the exposure has sparked renewed global interest in Ghana’s natural skincare products, particularly shea butter and black soap.
She believes the country has the potential to position itself as a leading global hub for skincare manufacturing and export.
“If we truly choose Ghana, Ghana can become a global hub for skin care. Shea butter and black soap alone can bring us a lot of jobs. The world consumes these in high numbers,” she emphasised.
The CEO revealed that the museum and its affiliated spa have since experienced overwhelming demand from both local and international clients.
“To be honest, we are overwhelmed. We are getting calls from all around the world, and our spa is getting booked. We cannot even serve the people coming, so we are asking for partners, support, because this is what Ghana is about,” she disclosed.
She urged the Ghana Tourism Authority to ensure partnerships and investment support to help scale operations and meet growing international demand, stressing that Ghana must capitalise on the current global attention.
“Right now, the world is looking at u,s and if we prepare, we can definitely serve a global audience,” she added.
