Investigation begins into structural collapse at Roman Ridge – GNFS
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of Tuesday’s building collapse at the Roman Ridge Engineering Centre in Accra, which left 14 construction workers injured.
The incident involved a 3-storey building under construction, reportedly being undertaken by Fabrico Builders, situated between a 10-storey apartment complex and the Ghana Institute of Engineering at Roman Ridge.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), it received a distress call at 12:18 p.m. and immediately dispatched a rescue team from its National Headquarters, led by Assistant Divisional Officer II Ankrah.
The team arrived at the scene at 12:29 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed that all 14 victims, male construction workers, had already been rescued and transported to the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital for emergency treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the workers sustained varying degrees of injury, but no deaths have been reported.
The GNFS noted that the cause of the collapse remains unknown, but a technical investigation is ongoing to assess whether the project met structural and safety standards.
The site manager has been directed to suspend all construction activities until the investigation concludes and to implement corrective measures to ensure full compliance with safety regulations.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations Directorate of the GNFS, the Service assured the public that further updates will be provided as more details become available.
