Interior Ministry imposes 4pm to 7am curfew on Sampa

The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has imposed a curfew on Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono region.

According to the ministry, the curfew was imposed on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council.

The action was taken in accordance with the appropriate Legislative Instrument following a chieftaincy dispute.

In a press statement signed by Mr Quartey on Thursday, April 18, the ministry announced that the curfew would commence from 4:00 pm to 7:00 am each day, effective Thursday, April 18.

“The government urges chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement read.

Additionally, the ministry added that all persons in the Sampa township are banned from carrying arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons.

“Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”
