Interior Ministry disputes OSP’s assassination-attempt claim
The Ministry of the Interior has refuted claims that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts, stating that there is no record anywhere within the country’s security agencies to support the allegation.
In a statement released on Monday, December 8, the Ministry said it had taken notice of comments made by the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko.
Speaking in an interview on December 6, 2025, Mr Darko claimed that the Special Prosecutor had escaped two attempts on his life while carrying out his mandate. He further alleged that he had been handcuffed and assaulted by a group of police officers.
The Ministry said such claims, if accurate, would raise serious concerns about the nation’s efforts to fight corruption.
It explained that after reaching out to Mr Agyebeng, the initial information that emerged suggested that the alleged attempts occurred years back.
It added that none of the incidents had ever been reported to the police or any other state security body.
According to the statement, “there is no evidence on record at any police station or national security agency to indicate that the Special Prosecutor ever reported threats on his life”.
The Interior Minister has called for a full investigation into both the alleged assassination attempts and the claim that Mr Darko was assaulted by police personnel.
The Ministry said it intends to provide updates as the inquiries progress.
