Interior Minister renews curfew hours for Nkwanta Township
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has officially renewed the curfew hours for Nkwanta township and its environs in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The Interior Ministry in a statement announced that the new hours start from 8:00 pm – 5:00 am effective Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
This action was taken on the advice of the Oti Regional Security Council, a statement said.
The curfew was initially put in place on January 28 following violent tribal clashes that resulted in multiple fatalities.
Meanwhile, the government has appealed to all persons in the town to exercise restraint and to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.
“Meanwhile, Government will like to reiterate that, there is a ban on all persons in Nkwanta Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” excerpts of the announcement added.
Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh, the Oti Regional Director of Health Services, voiced significant concerns regarding the impact of these restrictions.
He highlighted that many healthcare workers were reluctant to travel at night due to safety fears.
