The Ministry of Information has strongly condemned the assault on Dagbon Radio Journalist, Sadiq Abubakari Gariba, in Tamale.

Mr. Gariba was reportedly attacked by a former NDC Deputy Communication Officer, Hardi Pagaza, and another person on Wednesday, May 3.

Reacting to the latest development, the sector ministry in a statement called on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Also, the Ministry emphasized that attacks on journalists should not be tolerated and called for a swift and severe response from law enforcement agencies to prevent such acts and maintain Ghana’s status in press freedom.

The attack has sparked outrage from the media fraternity, with many calling for justice and increased protection for journalists in the country.

Recent reports suggest that there has been an increase in attacks on journalists in Ghana, some resulting in injuries and even deaths.

The Ministry’s statement is expected to reassure journalists in the country of the government’s commitment to protecting press freedom and promoting a safe and conducive environment for media practitioners.

The call for a probe and prosecution of the attackers is expected to serve as a warning to others who may be contemplating similar acts of violence against journalists.

The Ministry has also urged journalists to be vigilant and report any threats or attacks to the appropriate authorities. It is hoped that swift action by the police and other agencies will bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice and serve as a deterrent to others who may be tempted to attack journalists in the future.
