India-Ghana Friendship Centre in the offing – India High Commissioner

India has proposed the establishment of the Ghana-India Friendship Centre in the Bono Region to strengthen bilateral ties with Ghana.

This was disclosed by the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Sugandh Rajaram.

He explained that the establishment would serve as a fulcrum for the people in the region, and parts of the country to obtain hands-on experience from Indian expertise in building Ghana’s human resource capacity.

Mr Rajaram said this when he paid a courtesy call on Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister in Sunyani on Tuesday to kick start his five-day working visit to the region.

He said India had achieved a lot since its independence 75 years ago, saying it was therefore imperative for India to share her success stories with Ghana and Africa.

”Upgrading skills and building human capacity is the basis of our engagements with African Countries,” he noted.

Mr Rajaram further called on the Bono Regional Coordinating Council to also set up a specialized unit that would highlight the economic prospects in the region to attract investors from India.

On her part, the regional minister noted that India had made significant gains in E-commerce, agribusiness, and ICT, and called on the High Commissioner to move the region along in that direction.

She said the Bono Region was predominantly a farming area with 70 percent of the people engaged in cash crops, vegetables, fruits and poultry, and asked Indian investors to build strong partnerships with the farmers to pave the way for them to engage in commercial farming for mutual benefit.

“We believe if these peasant farmers are introduced to scientific methods of farming it would greatly enhance crop and food productivity in the region,” the Regional Minister stressed.
