Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Majority Leader, has confirmed that all four independent legislators intend to align with the NDC Majority Caucus in Parliament.

Kwame Asare Obeng, the MP for Gomoa Central, had already communicated his decision to join the Majority Caucus in writing. His formal confirmation sets the stage for the others to follow suit.

The remaining three MPs—Ohene Kwame Frimpong (Asante Akim North), Nandaya Yaw Stanley (Wulensi), and Worlasi Kpeli (Afram Plains North)—are expected to submit official letters to both the Majority Caucus and the Speaker of Parliament. This step is necessary for their alignment to be fully recognised and validated.

Dr. Forson announced this during a parliamentary session on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

“Currently, we have received letters from all four of them. So, Mr. Speaker, we’ll wait for them to officially write to you. My attention has been drawn to the fact that so far, the MP for Gomoa Central has written to us, but the rest are yet to write officially to confirm their positions,” Dr. Forson stated.

The decision by these independent MPs to align with the Majority Caucus could have significant implications for the balance of power in Parliament, as their support strengthens the Majority’s position.

It also signals a shift in the political dynamics within the legislative body.

The official letters from the remaining MPs are expected to clarify their positions and cement their alliance with the Majority Caucus, potentially affecting upcoming legislative decisions and the government’s ability to pass crucial policies.
