Immigration Service repatriates 925 undocumented migrants

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has repatriated 925 undocumented migrants following the recent swoop operation at major hotspots in Accra.

GIS, in a statement, indicated that the repatriation process began on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

This stems from a successful round-up of these migrants, most of whom were engaged in street begging, in a swoop on Friday, May 16, 2025.

The Immigration Service in the statement also explained that 819 Nigeriens and 106 Nigerians have been returned to their home countries.

“Repatriation was initiated on the morning of Saturday, 17th May, 2025. At the time of this release, 925 persons have been successfully repatriated, and processes are underway to remove the rest,” excerpts of the statement read.

The Service added that all affected immigrants went through profiling and security screening in line with Standard Operating Procedures.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to remove the remaining undocumented migrants picked up during the exercise, the Service announced.
