International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion, Richard Oblitey Commey, has described Saturday’s bout with Teofimo Lopez as a ‘one hell of a fight’ that needed to be taken with keen interest.
Commey said his focus on having a successful title defence is unchanged and would ensure he maintains his title ahead of next year.
The hard-hitting Ghanaian fighter is scheduled to make his mandatory title defence against Lopez at the Madison Square Garden in New York on the undercard of Terrence Crawford- Egidijus Kavaliauskas welterweight clash.
Speaking after his media workout, Commey explained that he was ready to prove his worth in the ring against a fighter in Lopez who is looking forward to making history for himself.
“”I won my title in February, and I look forward to defending my title for the second time, my first fight at Madison Square Garden, home of champions
“I look forward to facing Teofimo Lopez and proving my worth in the ring. This is going to be one hell of a fight,” he said.
Commey has been preparing feverishly under trainer Andre Rozier in New York ahead of his much-anticipated fight with undefeated Lopez.
With five straight victories against Hedi Slimani, Alejandro Luna, Yardley Cruz, Isa Chaniev and Raymundo Beltran, Commey will hope to add the American to his victims when they slug it out next month.
The Ghanaian will be making his fourth world championship fight on December 14, having won twice and lost once in his previous three bouts.
