Manchester City midfielder Rodri believes a more collective approach is sure to get the team back to winning games after picking up its second league loss three games into the 2025-2026 English Premier League season.
The reigning Ballon d’Or winner featured in Man City’s 2-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion in a game that had City lose its lead in the second half, prompting Man City manager Pep Guardiola to chastise his players.
Rodri has been in and out of the team to start the season after recovering from a serious ACL injury that ruined his 2024-2025 campaign and addressed his struggles to get back to his best and turn the team’s fortunes around by stating,
“For sure I need to recover my best level. I’m not [Lionel] Messi
“I’m not going to come back and just make the team win and win, this is a collective. When we won in the past I needed all my teammates,” he said to the BBC.
Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, formerly of FC Barcelona and presently with Inter Miami, is widely regarded as the greatest footballer of all time. Man City take on Manchester United on September 14.
