I’m 19 years old, not 13 — KNUST SHS student speaks out

The female student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School, seen in a viral video with an assistant headmaster, has clarified her age amid widespread speculation.

In an interview, she firmly stated that she is 19 years old, not 13 as has been reported by some media outlets and official sources.

“Just tell them I am 19 years old; I was born on July 21, 2006. I’m not 13 years old,” she said.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced showing the Assistant Headmaster (Academic), Charles Akwasi Aidoo, in a compromising situation with the student. The Ghana Education Service (GES) responded swiftly, removing him from his position on Monday.

However, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection issued a statement claiming the student was 13 years old and calling for the assistant headmaster’s arrest.

This triggered public outrage and intensified calls for legal action.

The student’s clarification adds a new layer to the ongoing investigation, which is being closely monitored by both education and child protection authorities.

Her statement challenges the narrative that has shaped public reaction and could influence the legal and disciplinary outcomes.

As the case unfolds, many are calling for a thorough and transparent inquiry that respects the rights of all involved while ensuring accountability.

The incident has sparked broader conversations about student safety, professional conduct, and the role of institutions in protecting young people.
